Mys\u00adte\u00adri\u00adous events involv\u00ading dis\u00adap\u00adpear\u00ading oil rigs and a secret Defense Min\u00adistry project attract UNIT\u2019s atten\u00adtion, espe\u00adcial\u00adly when the Mas\u00adter\u2019s involve\u00adment becomes appar\u00adent. The Mas\u00adter is being used as a con\u00adsul\u00adtant by a Min\u00adistry of Defense com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adca\u00adtions project but in real\u00adi\u00adty he is using them to broad\u00adcast a tachy\u00adon res\u00adcue sig\u00adnal to his past and future selves. How\u00adev\u00ader, the rapa\u00adcious alien race of the Sild inter\u00adcept the sig\u00adnal and use it to pluck var\u00adi\u00adous incar\u00adna\u00adtions of the Mas\u00adter out of time, start\u00ading to erase him from exis\u00adtence. Then the alien inva\u00adsion begins, whose object is to cap\u00adture the Mas\u00adter him\u00adself as the Mas\u00adter Stroke of their Mas\u00adter Plan of cre\u00adat\u00ading the Mas\u00adter Com\u00adput\u00ader, built of all the incar\u00adna\u00adtions of the Mas\u00adter they were col\u00adlect\u00ading. 1<\/sup> They don\u2019t find him, thanks to the inter\u00adfer\u00adence of the Doc\u00adtor who came to res\u00adcue him, which only leads to the aliens cap\u00adtur\u00ading him any\u00adway in the far-flung future. Unfor\u00adtu\u00adnate\u00adly, there\u2019s even more involved to the sto\u00adry line, way too much.<\/p>\n This sto\u00adry is a mess: from the involve\u00adment of the Mas\u00adter in secret gov\u00adern\u00adment exper\u00adi\u00adments to the inva\u00adsion of Earth by killer shrimp in robot lob\u00adster suits to the exis\u00adtence of the mys\u00adte\u00adri\u00adous Red Queen to ancient Time Lord secrets to a trip to end of Time itself, there are at least two sto\u00adries (the alien inva\u00adsion and the dis\u00adap\u00adpear\u00adance of the Mas\u00adter) at work here and they don\u2019t mesh very well.<\/p>\n And who are the Sild? Just anoth\u00ader of the legion of dan\u00adger\u00adous con\u00adquer\u00ading alien races whose tac\u00adtics seem pret\u00adty mun\u00addane to qual\u00adi\u00adty for that title: all they do is swarm a plan\u00adet and take over any exist\u00ading life form, then repeat. Oth\u00ader\u00adwise they look like prawns in lob\u00adster armor: this armor does\u00adn\u2019t even have any weapons and isn\u2019t very pro\u00adtec\u00adtive. As such, they\u2019re more of a cos\u00admic infes\u00adta\u00adtion than a con\u00adqueror and they don\u2019t show enough oth\u00ader men\u00adace than that to war\u00adrant such a rep\u00adu\u00adta\u00adtion. I doubt the Cyber\u00admen or the Son\u00adtarans would have con\u00adsid\u00adered them much of a men\u00adace. Appar\u00adent\u00adly, the Time Lords thought they were enough of a men\u00adace to do away with them, but also appar\u00adent\u00adly not enough a men\u00adace to do some\u00adthing Time Lord\u2011y as Time Loop their plan\u00adet like they have in the past, just col\u00adlect their entire race and imprison them on the prison ship The Con\u00adsol\u00adida\u00adtor<\/i>. Then, the Time Lords con\u00adsid\u00ader them such a men\u00adace as to destroy the ship but not enough of a men\u00adace that they allow two aspir\u00ading Time Lord Acad\u00ade\u00admy stu\u00addents (guess who?) to devise a way of destruc\u00adtion that does\u00adn\u2019t work as expect\u00aded. The Sild wind up in the far flung future (after the com\u00admon era of time trav\u00adel) where they start their cam\u00adpaign to return to the present to con\u00adtin\u00adue their con\u00adquer\u00ading ways.<\/p>\n The Mas\u00adter being unwrit\u00adten out of his\u00adto\u00adry: that would have been a real\u00adly spooky sto\u00adry, if only the sto\u00adry con\u00adcen\u00adtrat\u00aded on it, as the Doc\u00adtor dis\u00adcov\u00aders even Jo and the Brig and every\u00adone else start\u00ading to think the Doc\u00adtor is los\u00ading his mind. Evi\u00addence about the Mas\u00adter\u2019s exis\u00adtence slow\u00adly dis\u00adap\u00adpear\u00ading even before his eyes. His\u00adto\u00adry chang\u00ading as what\u00adev\u00ader the Mas\u00adter did was slow\u00adly being undone: peo\u00adple mur\u00addered by the Mas\u00adter now alive again, etc. That would have also raised some inter\u00adest\u00ading ques\u00adtions: How far would the Doc\u00adtor go to pre\u00adserve the life of his old rival? How would this reflect the rela\u00adtion\u00adship between the Doc\u00adtor and the Mas\u00adter? What would have hap\u00adpened in the Uni\u00adverse had the Mas\u00adter dis\u00adap\u00adpeared? (The dis\u00adap\u00adpear\u00adance of their Holmes \/ Mori\u00adar\u00adty rela\u00adtion\u00adship result\u00ading in the dis\u00adap\u00adpear\u00adance of all Sher\u00adlock Holmes lit\u00ader\u00ada\u00adture?)
