Synopsis<\/h1>\n

Some\u00adthing mys\u00adte\u00adri\u00adous is hap\u00adpen\u00ading with mys\u00adte\u00adri\u00adous peo\u00adple mys\u00adte\u00adri\u00adous\u00adly at a near\u00adby aban\u00addoned air\u00adfield, which is the cov\u00ader for an impend\u00ading alien inva\u00adsion. Already the aliens have tak\u00aden pos\u00adses\u00adsion of sev\u00ader\u00adal Very Impor\u00adtant Peo\u00adple at the Defense Min\u00adistry to smooth oth\u00ader every\u00adthing and are hunt\u00ading for the Lost MacGuf\u00adfin in order to begin the inva\u00adsion. For\u00adtu\u00adnate\u00adly some\u00adone was old friends with the Brigadier and knew just how to bypass secu\u00adri\u00adty to con\u00adtact him direct\u00adly. The Brig, of course, sends the Doc\u00adtor, after he gets back from a lit\u00adtle side trip that has noth\u00ading to do with the main sto\u00adry, and soon every\u00adthing turns into (pseu\u00addo) Zom\u00adbie Apoc\u00ada\u00adlypse! with vil\u00adlagers get\u00adting implant\u00aded with alien embryos to con\u00adtrol them to hold off the UNIT troops until the actu\u00adal inva\u00adsion begins. All is saved when a WW II Spit\u00adfire air\u00adplane dives into the tele\u00adpor\u00adta\u00adtion beam and halts the inva\u00adsion permanently.<\/p>\n

Commentary<\/h1>\n

Oh, my god, not anoth\u00ader aliens from a dying plan\u00adet inva\u00adsion of the Earth sto\u00adry. Is there some sign out in the mid\u00addle of the Uni\u00adverse adver\u00adtis\u00ading Earth as a ful\u00adly-equipped, quick \u00e2\u20ac\u0153fixer-upper\u00e2\u20ac\u009d home includ\u00ading 6 bil\u00adlion poten\u00adtial host creatures?<\/p>\n

The sto\u00adry is a quite unre\u00admark\u00adable tale: an alien inva\u00adsion in a small ham\u00adlet which leads to the entire town being put under alien con\u00adtrol. Sound famil\u00adiar? It should. Its been in sev\u00ader\u00adal Doc\u00adtor Who episodes already, not to men\u00adtion movies (\u201cInvaders From Mars\u201d<\/em>, \u201cInva\u00adsion of the Body Snatch\u00aders\u201d<\/em>) and oth\u00ader TV shows (\u201cThe Invaders\u201d<\/em>). (There is a pat\u00adtern here.)\u00c2  There\u2019s noth\u00ading here to make this sto\u00adry stand out from any of the rest.<\/p>\n

And what is it with the sud\u00adden appear\u00adance of the Mas\u00adter in the mid\u00addle of the sto\u00adry? From the dia\u00adlog, it appears this takes place before his first appear\u00adance in the TV series, which is a major faux pas<\/em>, since the Doc\u00adtor was sur\u00adprised to find out the Mas\u00adter was about and on Earth in \u2018Ter\u00adror of the Autons\u2019<\/em>. He real\u00adly does\u00adn\u2019t serve any pur\u00adpose here, nor does he act very smart: when deal\u00ading with des\u00adper\u00adate alien races who will do any\u00adthing to sur\u00advive, he should have expect\u00aded to be betrayed by his employ\u00aders, or maybe in his expan\u00adsive ego he thinks they nev\u00ader will betray him. Cer\u00adtain\u00adly he\u2019d betray them at any time if felt the need, so why can\u2019t the Mas\u00adter ever think his employ\u00aders would not do the same?<\/p>\n
