I was a fan of the orig\u00adi\u00adnal Guild\u00adWars<\/a> online MMORPG from the first moment I dis\u00adcov\u00adered it includ\u00aded the Mes\u00admer<\/a> pro\u00adfes\u00adsion<\/a> for play\u00ader char\u00adac\u00adters. I played it for sev\u00ader\u00adal years and still do on occa\u00adsion, but I long since did every\u00adthing I could and even cre\u00adat\u00ading a new char\u00adac\u00adter with a dif\u00adfer\u00adent pro\u00adfes\u00adsion was\u00adn\u2019t all that inter\u00adest\u00ading any longer. Now I\u2019ve found a sim\u00adi\u00adlar inter\u00adest in the sequel game, Guild\u00adWars 2.<\/p>\n

Three years ago, Are\u00adnaNet<\/a> released Guild\u00adWars 2<\/a>. One of the great mys\u00adter\u00adies sur\u00adround\u00ading the release was the final char\u00adac\u00adter pro\u00adfes\u00adsion, which was (as many play\u00aders were hop\u00ading) again the Mes\u00admer<\/a> pro\u00adfes\u00adsion, much changed from the first game, alas. Guild\u00adWars 2 was, like its pre\u00adde\u00adces\u00adsor, a non-sub\u00adscrip\u00adtion game, with only the ini\u00adtial pay\u00adment for the client soft\u00adware the only main out\u00adlay to play the game. At the time, and since, I could\u00adn\u2019t real\u00adly afford the (admit\u00adted\u00adly min\u00adi\u00admal) cost, plus, at the time, I did\u00adn\u2019t have a fast enough Inter\u00adnet con\u00adnec\u00adtion that could han\u00addle the mas\u00adsive size of the client down\u00adload. There\u00adfore, I parked my inter\u00adest in the game and car\u00adried on with oth\u00ader things.<\/p>\n

Just recent\u00adly, how\u00adev\u00ader, Are\u00adnaNet \u201cunlocked\u201d the game, so peo\u00adple could play it for free. Grant\u00aded, access is lim\u00adit\u00aded to only two char\u00adac\u00adters, and oth\u00ader aspects are lim\u00adit\u00aded or locked, but the core ele\u00adments are still avail\u00adable. I decid\u00aded to give it a try and I\u2019ve been hooked ever since.<\/p>\n

Of course, I had to cre\u00adate a Mes\u00admer char\u00adac\u00adter, actu\u00adal\u00adly two of them. Part of the char\u00adac\u00adter cre\u00adation is a series of ques\u00adtions about the char\u00adac\u00adter\u2019s past. The one human char\u00adac\u00adter (the oth\u00ader char\u00adac\u00adter is a Norn, which are very large human-appear\u00ading beings: I tried a Syl\u00advari (plant-based crea\u00adture) but I was\u00adn\u2019t sat\u00adis\u00adfied with the visu\u00adal image, although I may return to that race in the future) was asked about what they wished they had done in their past: hav\u00ading seen the ques\u00adtions and the results before, I answered the ques\u00adtion with \u201crun off to join the cir\u00adcus.\u201d That deter\u00admined the series of quests in the sec\u00adond seg\u00adment of the char\u00adac\u00adter\u2019s per\u00adson\u00adal devel\u00adop\u00adment sto\u00adry, involv\u00ading the Float\u00ading Grizwhirl.<\/p>\n

The Floating Grizwhirl<\/h3>\n

The Float\u00ading Grizwhirl was a hyp\u00adnot\u00adic device used by the Ring\u00admas\u00adter (no, not that<\/a> one) to foment chaos and destruc\u00adtion with\u00adin the cap\u00adi\u00adtal city of Divin\u00adi\u00adty\u2019s Reach and the ulti\u00admate over\u00adthrow of Queen Jen\u00adna. The char\u00adac\u00adter is drawn into the plot through the machi\u00adna\u00adtions of a par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar Min\u00adis\u00adter and the need to res\u00adcue a lost child. That leads to a con\u00adfronta\u00adtion<\/a> with hyp\u00adno\u00adtized carnies, a per\u00adson\u00adal try\u00adout for the car\u00adni\u00adval, a pri\u00advate meet\u00ading with the Ring\u00admas\u00adter and the ulti\u00admate con\u00adfronta\u00adtion<\/a> with the Ring\u00admas\u00adter and the hyp\u00adno\u00adtized audi\u00adence. Along the way, the play\u00ader\u2019s char\u00adac\u00adter gets hyp\u00adno\u00adtized by the Ring\u00admas\u00adter and led to believe that every\u00adone around them is a mon\u00adster, who are sim\u00adi\u00adlar\u00adly hypnotized.<\/p>\n
