\u201cMars Needs Women\u201d<\/em><\/a>: Men from the plan\u00adet Mars (led by for\u00admer Dis\u00adney child actor Tom\u00admy Kirk<\/a>) come to Earth to steal genet\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly-per\u00adfect women (includ\u00ading stun\u00adning\u00adly beau\u00adti\u00adful sci\u00aden\u00adtist Yvonne Craig<\/a>) with which to rebuild their race. Their strat\u00ade\u00adgy leaves a lot to be desired, as they announce to the Earth that they are com\u00ading and why, so the Earth is imme\u00addi\u00adate\u00adly on guard against them.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Descrip\u00adtion:<\/em> A mil\u00adi\u00adtary radio sta\u00adtion picks up a strange mes\u00adsage, say\u00ading sim\u00adply \u201cMars Needs Women\u201d. The extrater\u00adres\u00adtri\u00adal ori\u00adgin of the sig\u00adnal is enough to alert the author\u00adi\u00adties about the impend\u00ading incur\u00adsion. They can\u2019t stop the Mar\u00adtians from land\u00ading, how\u00adev\u00ader, and they fan out, seek\u00ading prospec\u00adtive females, with a time lim\u00adit of only 24 hours. All except the Mar\u00adt\u00adian leader (played by Tom\u00admy Kirk): in order to infil\u00adtrate the mil\u00adi\u00adtary search pro\u00adgram, he takes the iden\u00adti\u00adty of a reporter, using a hyp\u00adnot\u00adic tech\u00adnique involv\u00ading the reflec\u00adtions off a tur\u00adbu\u00adlent pool of water as a focus. This is where he meets Dr. Mar\u00adjorie Bolen (Yvonne Craig) who is brought in as expert in genet\u00adics to advise the mil\u00adi\u00adtary search. The Mar\u00adt\u00adian leader decides that she will be his selection.<\/p>\n

Mean\u00adwhile, the rest of the crew are out, select\u00ading their vic\u00adtims and hyp\u00adno\u00adtiz\u00ading them and car\u00adry\u00ading them off to where they will be placed in cryo\u00adgenic sus\u00adpen\u00adsion for the trip home. The miss\u00ading women and the man\u00adhunt and accom\u00adpa\u00adnies it even\u00adtu\u00adal\u00adly lead the mil\u00adi\u00adtary to where the Mar\u00adtians have hid\u00adden their con\u00adquests, where they are joined by the Mar\u00adt\u00adian leader and Dr. Bolen. With the author\u00adi\u00adties clos\u00ading in, there is no time to trans\u00adfer the frozen women to their space\u00adship, but Dr. Bolen vol\u00adun\u00adteers to go along: she real\u00adizes the dif\u00adfi\u00adcul\u00adty the Mar\u00adt\u00adian race is fac\u00ading and feels she can help.<\/p>\n

Com\u00admen\u00adtary:<\/em> Grade B and deserv\u00ading of it. It has all the pre\u00adten\u00adtious\u00adness of a movie try\u00ading to be seri\u00adous yet nev\u00ader comes close to car\u00adry\u00ading it out. Fur\u00adther\u00admore, it has all the look of a movie filmed on the cheap, with Mar\u00adt\u00adian cos\u00adtumes appar\u00adent\u00adly sup\u00adplied from the back of some stu\u00addio\u2019s 30\u2019s B\u2011movie ser\u00adi\u00adal clos\u00adet, overuse of local scenery (Hous\u00adton, in this case) and bad edit\u00ading. Among the cin\u00ade\u00admat\u00adic crimes com\u00admit\u00adted here are an idiot plot<\/a>, overuse of stock footage<\/a> and stereo\u00adtyp\u00adi\u00adcal eye-con\u00adtact hyp\u00adno\u00adsis<\/a>. And, if at times the actors appear to be mov\u00ading strange\u00adly, its because the cam\u00adera was cranked down to three-quar\u00adter or even half-speed, increas\u00ading the expo\u00adsure time just as a still cam\u00ader\u00ada\u2019s shut\u00adter speed is increased in dura\u00adtion for low light to com\u00adpen\u00adsate for the dark\u00ader set\u00adtings, so the actors had to move at slow\u00ader speeds to match the cam\u00adera speed.<\/p>\n

It is a won\u00adder why \u201cMys\u00adtery Sci\u00adence The\u00adater 3000\u201d<\/em> nev\u00ader fea\u00adtured this one.<\/p>\n

How\u00adev\u00ader, in the movie\u2019s defense, it does have a few good spots, such as the non-vio\u00adlent approach the Mar\u00adtians take (although being able to hyp\u00adno\u00adtize at a glance does help with negat\u00ading any poten\u00adtial vio\u00adlence) or the scene where Kirk chid\u00ading his fel\u00adlow Mar\u00adt\u00adian for using vio\u00adlence to acquire their Earth cloth\u00ading, telling him that the act would be con\u00adsid\u00adered just anoth\u00ader scene of youth vio\u00adlence, or com\u00admen\u00adtary about \u201cthe envi\u00adron\u00admen\u00adtal naivet\u00e9 of the Earth\u00admen.\u201d Its a con\u00adsid\u00ader\u00adable dif\u00adfer\u00adence form the youths of \u201cTeenagers From Out\u00ader Space\u201d<\/em> or the Mar\u00adtians from \u201cInvaders from Mars\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n
