There have been many famous male stage hyp\u00adno\u00adtists in the 20th<\/sup> Cen\u00adtu\u00adry, includ\u00ading Wal\u00adford Bod\u00adie, Franz Pol\u00adgar<\/a>, Ormond McGill<\/a> and Gil Boyne, but there has only been one female stage hyp\u00adno\u00adtist with an equal amount of fame then.<\/p>\n

That hyp\u00adno\u00adtist was Pat Collins \u2014 \u201cThe Hyp Hypnotist\u201d.<\/p>\n

No one did more to pop\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adize hyp\u00adno\u00adsis in gen\u00ader\u00adal and stage hyp\u00adno\u00adsis in par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar in the 60\u2019s than Pat Collins, the \u201cHip\u201d Hyp\u00adno\u00adtist. She made fre\u00adquent appear\u00adances in TV series, talk shows, game shows and movies in the 60\u2019s, then did two spe\u00adcials for the Show\u00adtime cable chan\u00adnel in the 70\u2019s and 80\u2019s, as well as hav\u00ading a night\u00adclub of her own on the famous Los Ange\u00adles Sun\u00adset Strip and in Reno, Neva\u00adda, at such casi\u00adnos as the MGM Grand and Harrah\u2019s.<\/p>\n

(Mae\u00adlene Collins-Grenat, Pat Collins\u2019 daugh\u00adter)\u201cPat Collins did her per\u00adfor\u00admance in the ear\u00adly 60\u2019s at clubs until she opened her own club on the Sun\u00adset strip at the cor\u00adner of Sun\u00adset and Dohe\u00adny next to Gil Turn\u00aders Liquor, where she did her show and also held self hyp\u00adno\u00adsis class\u00ades. Then in the ear\u00adly 80\u2019s she closed the club and moved to Reno NV and per\u00adformed at the MGM and in Tahoe. She only did a brief appear\u00adance in Las Vegas about 1981. She appeared on almost every talk show you can think of from late 60\u2019s through the 70\u2019s. ( I would love to have copies of them if any one has one) She played her self in Divorce Amer\u00adi\u00adcan Style, The Lucy Show, & an episode of the Bill Dana Show. She played a car\u00adi\u00adca\u00adture called BABS IVAR in an episode of the Hon\u00adey West Show. She was also on an episode of Whats My Line and a show called No Time for Sear\u00adgents. She made 2 record albums [Turn On!] and anoth\u00ader called \u201cSleep With Pat Collins\u201d. She nev\u00ader did a TV show although it would have been great. I am sure that she was con\u00adcerned about peo\u00adple think\u00ading it was rigged. She became ill and in her 60\u2019s decid\u00aded to stop per\u00adform\u00ading and moved back to South\u00adern Cal\u00adi\u00adfor\u00adnia where she passed in 1997.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

His\u00adto\u00adry:<\/em> Pat learned hyp\u00adno\u00adsis after she had been cured by a psy\u00adchi\u00ada\u00adtrist of a case of hys\u00adter\u00adi\u00adcal paral\u00ady\u00adsis through hyp\u00adno\u00adsis. Her teacher was stage hyp\u00adno\u00adtist Tri\u00adone Boy\u00ader (real name Tra\u00adian Ted Boy\u00ader), who was per\u00adform\u00ading at the Club Cairo on North Sheri\u00addan in Chica\u00adgo. Pat got her\u00adself an agent and start\u00aded work\u00ading clubs in the Mid\u00adwest, then made the jump to Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

Her agent made a deal with the own\u00aders of The Inter\u00adlude, a night\u00adclub on the famed Sun\u00adset Strip, andw oudl even\u00adtu\u00adal\u00adly open her own night club at the cor\u00adner of Sun\u00adset and Dohe\u00adny next to Gil Turn\u00aders Liquor store in LA. She prob\u00ada\u00adbly was\u00adn\u2019t the first female stage hyp\u00adno\u00adtist in town, but her tal\u00adent, skill and per\u00adson\u00adal\u00adi\u00adty more than equaled any com\u00adpeti\u00adtors, female or male. She was such a sen\u00adsa\u00adtion that stars flocked to her show, even appear\u00ading in it, such as actor Lloyd Bridges (of \u201cSea Hunt\u201d<\/em>), who was hyp\u00adno\u00adtized into believ\u00ading he was swim\u00adming under\u00adwa\u00adter through the audi\u00adence. In addi\u00adtion to Los Ange\u00adles, she played the such cities as New York and Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

She appeared on many TV pro\u00adgrams over the years, most\u00adly sit\u00adu\u00ada\u00adtion come\u00addies, where hyp\u00adno\u00adsis was always part of the com\u00ade\u00addy in that episode.<\/p>\n\n
