<\/p>\n

His\u00adto\u00adry:<\/em> Vam\u00adpirella<\/a> start\u00aded at the host of her own B&W hor\u00adror mag\u00ada\u00adzine \u201cVam\u00adpirella\u201d<\/em>, first pub\u00adlished (dat\u00aded) in Sep\u00adtem\u00adber, 1969. Well-known fan, agent and edi\u00adtor For\u00adrest J Ack\u00ader\u00adman<\/a> cre\u00adat\u00aded the char\u00adac\u00adter for the War\u00adren Pub\u00adlish\u00ading com\u00adpa\u00adny. For the first eight issues, she was the host of the mag\u00ada\u00adzine, a role lim\u00adit\u00aded to intro\u00adduc\u00ading the var\u00adi\u00adous sto\u00adries in the mag\u00ada\u00adzine and some\u00adtimes mak\u00ading com\u00admen\u00adtary about the end\u00adings. How\u00adev\u00ader, in issue #8, she was giv\u00aden an ori\u00adgin and a per\u00adson\u00adal\u00adi\u00adty, as well as a poten\u00adtial antag\u00ado\u00adnist and a friend.<\/p>\n

Her Ori\u00adgin:<\/em> Vam\u00adpirella is an alien from the plan\u00adet Draku\u00adlon, an idyl\u00adlic world under twin suns where the basic source of life was found in the rivers of blood that flowed through the land\u00adscape. As a Draku\u00adlon\u00adian, she pos\u00adsess\u00ades alien abil\u00adi\u00adties which strong\u00adly resem\u00adble vam\u00adpire leg\u00adends (in fact, a rene\u00adgade Draku\u00adlon\u00adian was the source for those leg\u00adends) which include shapeshift\u00ading to a bat or bat-winged form, enhanced strength and speed, and, of most impor\u00adtance here, an pow\u00ader\u00adful mes\u00admer\u00adic stare. How\u00adev\u00ader, she does not share the tra\u00addi\u00adtion\u00adal vam\u00adpire defects: she is immune to gar\u00adlic and oth\u00ader tra\u00addi\u00adtion\u00adal defens\u00ades, can\u00adnot be harmed by sun\u00adlight or holy water, and her bite can\u00adnot cause her vic\u00adtim to become a vampire.<\/p>\n

Unfor\u00adtu\u00adnate\u00adly, those rivers of blood on Draku\u00adlon were dry\u00ading up, doom\u00ading the world and its inhab\u00adi\u00adtants. Vam\u00adpirella man\u00adaged to escape by trav\u00adel\u00ading to Earth by way of an rock\u00adet probe. Once on Earth, she was pressed to keep her blood-thirst from tak\u00ading con\u00adtrol of her, final\u00adly resort\u00ading to a sub\u00adsti\u00adtute serum cre\u00adat\u00aded by an ally. She found her\u00adself act\u00ading in many bat\u00adtles against occult threats, includ\u00ading the cultists and demon\u00adic ser\u00advants of the Mad God Chaos, Count Drac\u00adu\u00adla (a rene\u00adgade Draku\u00adlon\u00adian), among oth\u00aders, tak\u00ading on as allies includ\u00ading (and some\u00adtimes a love inter\u00adest) Adam van Hels\u00ading; his father, blind psy\u00adchic Con\u00adrad van Hels\u00ading; and, last but cer\u00adtain\u00adly not least, Morde\u00adcai \u201cThe Great\u201d Pen\u00addrag\u00adon, a for\u00admer wiz\u00adard now turned stage magi\u00adcian, with whom she would per\u00adform on stage. Also from Dark\u00adu\u00adlon was Pan\u00adtha, a sav\u00adage shapeshifter who trans\u00adforms into a black pan\u00adther and some\u00adtime lover of Adam.<\/p>\n

Draku\u00adlon\u00adian Mes\u00admerism:<\/em> <\/em>Vam\u00adpirella only sel\u00addom use her mes\u00admer\u00adiz\u00ading gaze in the sto\u00adries, despite it being a pret\u00adty decent means of resolv\u00ading most conflicts.<\/p>\n

#15: \u2018The Res\u00adur\u00adrec\u00adtion of Papa Voudou\u2019<\/em>: Vam\u00adpirella and Adam are in Cot\u00e9 del Soleil, hunt\u00ading for his father Con\u00adrad. The ruler of the coun\u00adtry, who went by the name Papa Voudou, had recent\u00adly died, and his mis\u00adtress used her pow\u00aders as a bocur<\/em> \u2014 Voudoun priest\u00adess \u2014 to rean\u00adi\u00admate his corpse. Through the even black\u00ader spells of the Crim\u00adson Chron\u00adi\u00adcles she plans to ful\u00adly revive him, but she need\u00aded some\u00adone to cast the pro\u00adtec\u00adtive spells nec\u00ades\u00adsary to sur\u00advive the cer\u00ade\u00admo\u00adny, and so had Con\u00adrad kid\u00adnapped to assist her. Con\u00adrad refus\u00ades to help her until Adam was cap\u00adtured and severe\u00adly injured: Con\u00adrad was black\u00admailed into assist\u00ading with the mag\u00adick\u00adal cer\u00ade\u00admo\u00adny for the price of Adam\u2019s life. How\u00adev\u00ader, the dic\u00adta\u00adtor\u2019s right-hand strong man, Colonel Ramm, instruct\u00aded the doc\u00adtor to let Adam die when it was learned that Adam had a rare blood type.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Vam\u00adpirella mes\u00admer\u00adized the doc\u00adtor into giv\u00ading Adam a trans\u00adfu\u00adsion of her blood instead, then instruct\u00ading the sur\u00adgeon to defend Adam at all costs. The cer\u00ade\u00admo\u00adny takes place but with trag\u00adic results to all but Con\u00adrad, and the reign of Papa Voudou is end\u00aded forever.<\/p>\n

<\/a>In the end, Pen\u00addrag\u00adon, search\u00ading for Vam\u00adpirella in the fes\u00adtive streets, runs across anoth\u00ader vam\u00adpire: Count Drac\u00adu\u00adla him\u00adself, who uses his vaunt\u00aded hyp\u00adnot\u00adic pow\u00aders to make Pen\u00addrag\u00adon help him cap\u00adture Vam\u00adpirella (in the next issue.)<\/p>\n

#89: \u2018A Gath\u00ader\u00ading of Wiz\u00adards\u2019<\/em>: In an ear\u00adli\u00ader sto\u00adry, Vam\u00adpirella, Adam, and Pen\u00addrag\u00adon were instru\u00admen\u00adtal in break\u00ading up a Satan\u00adic rit\u00adu\u00adal that would have named a black wiz\u00adard as the Anti-Pope. Two of the sur\u00adviv\u00ading wiz\u00adards cap\u00adture them and plan to offer them to their dark god, when they begin to argue and bat\u00adtle over who should be named the Anti-Pope. Dur\u00ading the con\u00adfu\u00adsion, Vam\u00adpirella is able to mes\u00admer\u00adize one of their acolytes into free\u00ading her.<\/p>\n

#98: \u2018Army of the Dead\u2019<\/em>: Vam\u00adpirella, Adam, and Pan\u00adtha are lured into an ambush of an army of undead crea\u00adtures, com\u00admand\u00aded by Stalk\u00ading Wolf, a Native Amer\u00adi\u00adcan shaman. In an effort to make the shaman under\u00adstand that he had been tricked by the Coun\u00adcil of Wiz\u00adards, Vampi\u2019s ene\u00admies, into attack\u00ading Vam\u00adpirella and her friends, she uses her mes\u00admer\u00adic gaze to make him under\u00adstand she is not his enemy.<\/p>\n

Her pow\u00ader is suf\u00adfi\u00adcient to make the shaman hes\u00adi\u00adtate and recon\u00adsid\u00ader his actions, when Adam\u2019s sil\u00adver bul\u00adlet stops his life. Vam\u00adpirella vows vengeance against the Coun\u00adcil of Wizards.<\/p>\n

Oth\u00ader Mes\u00admerism and Sim\u00adi\u00adlar:<\/em> Vam\u00adpirella was not the only being with hyp\u00adnot\u00adic abil\u00adi\u00adties: Drac\u00adu\u00adla also pos\u00adsessed them, and there were oth\u00aders who demon\u00adstrat\u00aded (or faked) them.<\/p>\n

#64 \u2018The Manip\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtors\u2019<\/em>: Vam\u00adpirella is black\u00admailed into help\u00ading a shady intel\u00adli\u00adgence agent code-named Spec\u00adtrum. Lit\u00adtle does she sus\u00adpect that her couri\u00ader mis\u00adsion will expose her to a fac\u00adtion of the Cult of Chaos and her friends to pos\u00adsi\u00adble death. Nor does she know that Spec\u00adtrum is the head of that faction!<\/p>\n

<\/a>One threat is to Pen\u00addrag\u00adon, who meets a pret\u00adty Eurasian woman per\u00adform\u00ading mag\u00adic tricks in the street while walk\u00ading with Con\u00adrad. While jug\u00adgling, she catch\u00ades Pen\u00addrag\u00adon\u2019s eyes and mes\u00admer\u00adizes him into obey\u00ading her.<\/p>\n

{Woman} \u201cYou are Pen\u00addrag\u00adon \u2026 you are my ser\u00advant, my slave!<\/strong> You have no will but mine!<\/strong> No thoughts but those I implant! Come<\/strong>, my ser\u00advant \u2026 come with<\/strong> me!\u201d<\/p>\n

{Pen\u00addrag\u00adon} \u201cI \u2026 am \u2026 yours \u2026 !\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Togeth\u00ader they depart, leav\u00ading Con\u00adrad as prey of anoth\u00ader assas\u00adsin, but Con\u00adrad escapes cer\u00adtain death. Lat\u00ader, Pen\u00addrag\u00adon will appear at the door of Con\u00adrad\u2019s hotel room, hold\u00ading a gun, but instead of shoot\u00ading Con\u00adrad, Pen\u00addrag\u00adon collapses.<\/p>\n

{Con\u00adrad} (Pen\u00addrag\u00adon was under hyp\u00adnot\u00adic com\u00admand to kill<\/strong> me, but his will rebelled<\/strong>. He could\u00adn\u2019t bring him\u00adself to do<\/strong> it!)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But the effort may have proved too much for Pen\u00addrag\u00adon, who was in a coma and placed in the inten\u00adsive care unit at the local hos\u00adpi\u00adtal, with lit\u00adtle chance at sur\u00adviv\u00ading the night. Con\u00adrad vis\u00adits the hos\u00adpi\u00adtal, and iden\u00adti\u00adfies the voice of the nurse over\u00adsee\u00ading Pen\u00addrag\u00adon as the voice of the man who tried to kill him ear\u00adli\u00ader. Sud\u00adden\u00adly, there is a scream, and some\u00adone cries out that some\u00adone had fell out the win\u00addow of Pen\u00addrag\u00adon\u2019s room to their death.<\/p>\n

Only it isn\u2019t Pen\u00addrag\u00adon lying dead on the street, it was his sup\u00adposed hit man. The hit man had not expect\u00aded that Pen\u00addrag\u00adon would be awake, but it was all part of a scheme to trap the hit man. The Eurasian woman (code named \u201cDrag\u00adon\u00adfly\u201d) was an FBI agent who had infil\u00adtrat\u00aded Spec\u00adtrum\u2019s infil\u00adtra\u00adtion of the intel\u00adli\u00adgence ser\u00advices. The hit man had been con\u00adtract\u00aded to elim\u00adi\u00adnate Con\u00adrad, and Spec\u00adtrum had sent Drag\u00adon\u00adfly to hyp\u00adno\u00adtize Pen\u00addrag\u00adon into for\u00adget\u00adting the whole affair. But the woman noti\u00adfied the FBI, and they arranged for Pen\u00addrag\u00adon to fake being hyp\u00adno\u00adtized. When the attempt on Con\u00adrad\u2019s life failed, Spec\u00adtrum ordered that she hyp\u00adno\u00adtize Pen\u00addrag\u00adon into killing Con\u00adrad. Instead, Pen\u00addrag\u00adon was hyp\u00adno\u00adtized into attempt\u00ading to kill Con\u00adrad and into falling into a coma at the sight of him. Then, at the hos\u00adpi\u00adtal, he awoke from the trance in time to sur\u00adprise the hit man, who was com\u00ading to fin\u00adish him off.<\/p>\n

Con\u00adrad, who had ear\u00adli\u00ader been anx\u00adious about the pos\u00adsi\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty that the Cult of Chaos had devel\u00adoped the pow\u00ader to mes\u00admer\u00adize through eye con\u00adtact, is hap\u00adpy to dis\u00adcov\u00ader his fears were not fact.<\/p>\n

#93 \u2018Encore for Anu\u00adbis\u2019<\/em>: Adam and Pan\u00adtha make use of an amulet that con\u00adtains the mem\u00ado\u00adries of an inter\u00adstel\u00adlar hunter, who claims to have exter\u00admi\u00adnat\u00aded Pan\u00adtha\u2019s race. Adam is locked in man\u00ada\u00adcles and then puts on the amulet, and then becomes pos\u00adsessed by the alien\u2019s mind. Dur\u00ading the ques\u00adtion\u00ading, Anubus tests the strength of the man\u00ada\u00adcles and even\u00adtu\u00adal\u00adly pulls them out of the wall. Then he attempts to fin\u00adish his mis\u00adsion of extermination.<\/p>\n

Pan\u00adtha, out of ideas, decides to try one of Vam\u00adpirella\u2019s tricks, mesmerism.<\/p>\n

{Pan\u00adtha} \u201cVampi<\/strong> and I have got\u00adten out of tighter<\/strong> spots that his! Vampi!<\/strong> That\u2019s it!<\/strong> She uses Draku\u00adlon\u00adian hyp\u00adno\u00adsis<\/strong>. Maybe I can, too. I\u2019m as good as dead<\/strong> if I don\u2019t try it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cAdam!<\/strong> Lis\u00adten to me! Fight<\/strong> this thing \u2026 for me and your\u00adself. I know you can lover<\/strong>! Claw your way to the sur\u00adface!<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

{Adam\/Anubis} \u201cNo \u2026 don\u2019t!<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

Once Adam is able to win free from the pos\u00adses\u00adsion, he strips off the amulet so that he can\u00adnot be pos\u00adsessed again.<\/p>\n

#95 \u2018Plague of Vam\u00adpires\u2019<\/em>: Some\u00adone is imper\u00adson\u00adat\u00ading Vam\u00adpirella, an imper\u00adson\u00adation so com\u00adplete that they even pos\u00adsess her alien strength and thirst. They\u2019re attack\u00ading at ran\u00addom, sav\u00adage\u00adly, among the home\u00adless of the city. Actu\u00adal\u00adly, they\u2019re her clones, man\u00adu\u00adfac\u00adtured by a rich busi\u00adness\u00adman who uses their alien blood to stave off his own impend\u00ading death.<\/p>\n

When a clone is destroyed by Con\u00adrad and Vam\u00adpirella, the agents of the busi\u00adness\u00adman gas them and remove the body. Vam\u00adpirella caught a glimpse of the van\u2019s license plate, but could not remem\u00adber it. Con\u00adrad has Vam\u00adpirella con\u00adcen\u00adtrate on the reflec\u00adtion of the flick\u00ader\u00ading of the neon sign in his dark glass\u00ades (which he could hear over\u00adhead) and induces a light trance in Vam\u00adpirella, enabling her to remem\u00adber the license plate.<\/p>\n

#102 \u2018The Return of the Blood Red Queen\u2019<\/em>: The Blood Red Queen, a wor\u00adshiper of the Cult of Chaos, needs sev\u00aden hearts to sum\u00admon the mad god Chaos. In order to col\u00adlect the hears, the Queen sum\u00admons Abelius, an incubus, a demon\u00adic spir\u00adit with pow\u00ader over women. She instructs him to bring her Vam\u00adpirella, and his pow\u00ader is suf\u00adfi\u00adcient to make Vam\u00adpirella accom\u00adpa\u00adny him, but the mem\u00ado\u00adry of her love Adam breaks his pow\u00ader over her. By that time, though, he had drugged her, and she awoke to find her\u00adself at the altar of Chaos, where the Queen uses the heart of the incubus as the remain\u00ading heart for the rit\u00adu\u00adal. In revenge for Vam\u00adpirella killing her sis\u00adter, the pre\u00advi\u00adous Queen, she plans on offer\u00ading Vam\u00adpirella to Chaos as his bride! What the Queen does not know is that Vam\u00adpirella has devel\u00adoped an aller\u00adgy to her blood serum, and the peri\u00adod of uncon\u00adscious\u00adness had made her almost insane with thirst. That thirst dri\u00adves her to break her bonds just as Chaos is sum\u00admoned, and Vam\u00adpirella drains the Queen\u2019s blood before throw\u00ading her to the arms of Chaos.<\/p>\n

Next:<\/em> With the War\u00adren Pub\u00adlish\u00ading bank\u00adrupt\u00adcy 1983, the rights to Vam\u00adpirella are acquired by Har\u00adris Pub\u00adli\u00adca\u00adtions, although War\u00adren him\u00adself lat\u00ader recov\u00adered the rights to \u201cCreepy\u201d<\/em> and \u201cEerie\u201d<\/em> and their respec\u00adtive hosts.
