The Cos\u00adtume:<\/em> The most strik\u00ading image of Vam\u00adpirella is, of course, her cos\u00adtume. It first appeared on the cov\u00ader of the \u201cVam\u00adpirella\u201d<\/em> #1 by not\u00aded fan\u00adta\u00adsy artist Frank Frazetta<\/a>, but he was\u00adn\u2019t the one who designed it. (Anoth\u00ader artist had already cre\u00adat\u00aded the cov\u00ader art for the issue but edi\u00adtor Jim War\u00adren want\u00aded some\u00adthing more dra\u00admat\u00adic.) As War\u00adren was try\u00ading to describe how the cos\u00adtume should look over phone to Frazetta, artist Tri\u00adna Rob\u00adbins<\/a>, who hap\u00adpened to be in the room with War\u00adren, began sketch\u00ading out a design. Once it was done, she took over speak\u00ading on the phone, describ\u00ading her design to Frazetta, who would lat\u00ader add the bat image and the armband.<\/p>\n The Nov\u00adels:<\/em> Six nov\u00adel adap\u00adta\u00adtions of the ear\u00adly sto\u00adries were released, all adapt\u00aded by SF author and comics fan and his\u00adto\u00adry expert Ron Goulart<\/a>, although no cred\u00adit is giv\u00aden the orig\u00adi\u00adnal script writ\u00aders. The sto\u00adry gen\u00ader\u00adal\u00adly fol\u00adlowed Vam\u00adpirella\u2019s ori\u00adgin sto\u00adry, com\u00adplete with her trav\u00adel to Earth, where she is now hunt\u00ading Vlad, the per\u00adson who mur\u00addered her father and the rest of the Draku\u00adlo\u00adni\u00adans. It does fea\u00adture two scenes of a sort of vam\u00adpire mes\u00admerism: one, dur\u00ading land\u00ading, when Vam\u00adpirella emerges into the rock\u00adet con\u00adtrol room and use her mes\u00admer\u00adic pow\u00aders to make the astro\u00adnauts for\u00adget her, although here its more like tele\u00adpath\u00adic mind con\u00adtrol; and two, where Vlad uses his pow\u00ader to escape being imprisoned.<\/p>\n\n Unfor\u00adtu\u00adnate\u00adly, despite her ear\u00adli\u00ader agree\u00adment, Soto would not wear the orig\u00adi\u00adnal cos\u00adtume, even though it had been worn by a num\u00adber of mod\u00adels over the years (on many mag\u00ada\u00adzine cov\u00aders, among oth\u00ader places) so a mod\u00adi\u00adfied ver\u00adsion of the cos\u00adtume was used, being much less revealing.<\/p>\n The Har\u00adris Pub\u00adli\u00adca\u00adtion Era:<\/em> When Har\u00adris Pub\u00adli\u00adca\u00adtions took over the rights and the pub\u00adli\u00adca\u00adtion of the char\u00adac\u00adter, they made sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant changes to her. Most sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant\u00adly was that she dis\u00adcov\u00adered her whole his\u00adto\u00adry was a lie: she was in fact the daugh\u00adter of Lilith, the first wife of Adam from Hebrew leg\u00adends. Lilith was eject\u00aded from the Gar\u00adden of Eden for not sub\u00admit\u00adting to Adam and so instead trav\u00adeled to Hell and became the moth\u00ader of vam\u00adpires. Vam\u00adpirella was her last child, con\u00adceived as a counter to the rest of her chil\u00addren as a means of seek\u00ading for\u00adgive\u00adness, but her mem\u00ado\u00adries were altered by her sib\u00adlings Madek and Mag\u00adda\u00adlene to keep her from achiev\u00ading her true pow\u00ader and com\u00adplet\u00ading her mission.<\/p>\n How\u00adev\u00ader, as the daugh\u00adter of Lilith, Vam\u00adpirella pos\u00adsess\u00ades the pow\u00ader of a suc\u00adcubus, mean\u00ading that she can be irre\u00adsistible to any man if she choos\u00ades. As such, its actu\u00adal\u00adly not much dif\u00adfer\u00adent from her mes\u00admer\u00adiz\u00ading gaze as it appeared in the War\u00adren sto\u00adries, as there she only used it on men. How\u00adev\u00ader, she has used this abil\u00adi\u00adty even less than she did in her ear\u00adli\u00ader incar\u00adna\u00adtion, rely\u00ading on almost exclu\u00adsive\u00adly her super\u00adnat\u00adur\u00adal strength and fight\u00ading ability.<\/p>\n Oth\u00ader than that, Vam\u00adpirella\u2019s mis\u00adsion is large\u00adly the same, fight\u00ading on the side of human\u00adi\u00adty against the oth\u00ader vampires.<\/p>\n The Dyna\u00admite Pub\u00adli\u00adca\u00adtion Era:<\/em> In 2010, Dyna\u00admite Pub\u00adli\u00adca\u00adtions bought the rights to Vam\u00adpirella. From what lit\u00adtle they have pub\u00adlished at this time, it appears they are keep\u00ading to the same sto\u00adry\u00adline and origin.<\/p>\n Com\u00admen\u00adtary:<\/em> The par\u00adal\u00adlels to the char\u00adac\u00adter of the Shad\u00adow are strik\u00ading: both were cre\u00adat\u00aded to be hosts of their respec\u00adtive pub\u00adli\u00adca\u00adtions but soon went on to be pop\u00adu\u00adlar and pro\u00adduc\u00adtive char\u00adac\u00adters in their own right, evolv\u00ading and chang\u00ading. Plus, in cer\u00adtain incar\u00adna\u00adtions, they both had hyp\u00adnot\u00adic pow\u00aders. It would be inter\u00adest\u00ading to see a cross-over between the two, but that\u2019s unlike\u00adly, if only for the fact they\u2019re of dif\u00adfer\u00adent eras. (Vam\u00adpirella by Kalu\u00adta: that\u2019s a yum\u00admy image to con\u00adsid\u00ader, though.)<\/p>\n Also: giv\u00aden that all Draku\u00adlo\u00adni\u00adans could mes\u00admer\u00adize, how did their soci\u00adety func\u00adtion, if the more pow\u00ader\u00adful mes\u00admerists could enforce their will over the oth\u00aders? Cer\u00adtain\u00adly there had to be some pow\u00ader lev\u00adel dif\u00adfer\u00adence between indi\u00advid\u00adu\u00adals. Were they ruled by the strongest mes\u00admerists, or was there some soci\u00adetal restric\u00adtion on using their pow\u00ader on oth\u00aders? If there was, could it be because of past mis\u00aduse? The soci\u00adety of Mar\u00adi\u00adon Zim\u00admer Bradley\u2019s<\/a> world of Dark\u00adover<\/a> comes to mind here: past mis\u00aduse of their psy\u00adchic abil\u00adi\u00adties to cre\u00adate hor\u00adrif\u00adic weapons of mass destruc\u00adtion led to an unbreak\u00adable soci\u00adetal taboo against per\u00adson\u00adal weapons with any range out\u00adside the wield\u00ader\u2019s phys\u00adi\u00adcal reach.<\/p>\n Ref\u00ader\u00adences:<\/em><\/p>\n
