Sev\u00ader\u00adal weeks ago, I post\u00aded an entry on the short sto\u00adry \u2018Eight O\u2019Clock in the Morn\u00ading\u2019<\/em><\/a> by Ray Nel\u00adson. The sto\u00adry was the ori\u00adgin for the movie \u201cThey Live\u201d<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Now, as part of main\u00adtain\u00ading and mon\u00adi\u00adtor\u00ading the blog, I some\u00adtimes check to see what search terms vis\u00adi\u00adtors are using to find the blog. Every so often, far too often to be coin\u00adci\u00adden\u00adtal, an entry for \u201cray nel\u00adson\u201d and \u201ceight o\u2019clock in the morn\u00ading\u201d will come up. Its more than just once a week, its some\u00adtimes even two or three times a day.<\/p>\n

I checked Google, and the blog entry for the sto\u00adry appears in the first 10 entries (if I don\u2019t count all of the par\u00adal\u00adlel or sub\u00adsidiary Wiki entries) when search\u00ading for those terms. The first entries are for the Wikipedia entries for Ray Nel\u00adson or the movie \u201cThey Live\u201d<\/em>, then anoth\u00ader blog (which reprints<\/a> the entire sto\u00adry) and Ray Nel\u00adson\u2019s own web\u00adsite appears before mine, so I guess that\u2019s how peo\u00adple are find\u00ading my blog.<\/p>\n

But that does\u00adn\u2019t answer the ques\u00adtion of why<\/em>. Why would so (rel\u00ada\u00adtive\u00adly) many peo\u00adple be inter\u00adest\u00aded in a lit\u00adtle-known author (I was\u00adn\u2019t real\u00adly aware of him until I researched \u201cThey Live\u201d<\/em>) and one of his short\u00ader and less\u00ader sto\u00adries, and why so con\u00adtin\u00adu\u00adous\u00adly? Is some\u00adone teach\u00ading a class that ref\u00ader\u00adences the author or sto\u00adry and stu\u00addents are doing a web search for infor\u00adma\u00adtion? Is this some kind of strange web-search\u00ading \u2018bot at work? Are the aliens mon\u00adi\u00adtor\u00ading the blog for signs of peo\u00adple awak\u00aden\u00ading from their trance?<\/p>\n
