A col\u00adlec\u00adtion of three roman\u00adtic short sto\u00adries involv\u00ading hyp\u00adno\u00adsis pub\u00adlished by Ellora\u2019s Cave pub\u00adlish\u00ading com\u00adpa\u00adny. Each of the three have a love\u00adly, lone\u00adly lady paired with a seduc\u00adtive, sexy man though some use of hyp\u00adno\u00adsis, whether it be a stage hyp\u00adno\u00adsis show, a demon\u00adstra\u00adtion of mes\u00admerism or in pur\u00adsuit of a noto\u00adri\u00adous criminal.<\/p>\n

Com\u00admen\u00adtary:<\/em> What is inter\u00adest\u00ading is that all three sto\u00adries present dif\u00adfer\u00adent com\u00adbi\u00adna\u00adtions of mes\u00admer\u00adized expe\u00adri\u00adences: in one, the man is the mes\u00admerist and the last the sub\u00adject, but, in anoth\u00ader, the roles are reversed, and in a third, both are hyp\u00adno\u00adtized by a third par\u00adty. And while the hyp\u00adno\u00adsis is not always the cen\u00adter of the sto\u00adry, it is always a major dri\u00adving force in the plot.<\/p>\n And sex. Lots of long sighs and lust\u00adful thoughts and explic\u00adit fan\u00adtasies and men\u00adtal recrim\u00adi\u00adna\u00adtions and espe\u00adcial\u00adly wet and squishy and pret\u00adty explic\u00adit (but taste\u00adful) sex. And always, hyp\u00adno\u00adsis plays a part in that too, pri\u00admar\u00adi\u00adly as the ini\u00adtia\u00adtor of the rela\u00adtion\u00adship but in one sto\u00adry, its the secret fan\u00adta\u00adsy of both par\u00adtic\u00adi\u00adpants, one want\u00adi\u00adng to hyp\u00adno\u00adtize the oth\u00ader and the oth\u00ader want\u00adi\u00adng to be hypnotized.<\/p>\n Lady Abi\u00adgail Fox\u00adworth has just reject\u00aded her lat\u00adest suit\u00ador, much to her step-moth\u00ader\u2019s dis\u00admay. Its not that she\u2019s fick\u00adle, but she is<\/em> demand\u00ading of her suit\u00adors and demands only some\u00adone who can match her intel\u00adli\u00adgence as well as stir her heart (and oth\u00ader places, as well.) Then she attends a par\u00adty at a neigh\u00adbor\u00ading estate, at which will be a demon\u00adstra\u00adtion of mes\u00admerism. But even before the demon\u00adstra\u00adtion, she is total\u00adly mes\u00admer\u00adized by the sight of Sir Phillip\u2019s eyes, just as he<\/em> is mes\u00admer\u00adized by the love\u00adly Lady Abi\u00adgail. He, in fact, is the mes\u00admerist, and leads Abi\u00adgail to be his demon\u00adstra\u00adtion sub\u00adject, at which she per\u00adforms superbly, even though she tells her\u00adself she is only act\u00ading. After\u00adward, she can\u2019t keep from think\u00ading about Phillip (or lust\u00ading for him) and he feels quite the same. But it takes quite a while for their minds to rec\u00adog\u00adnize what their hearts and bod\u00adies already know<\/p>\n Com\u00admen\u00adtary:<\/em> Mes\u00admerism is the spark that unites the two lovers, and it is the run\u00adning theme and con\u00adven\u00adtion used to describe their mutu\u00adal attrac\u00adtion, even by the two them\u00adselves. As for Abi\u00adgail, she thinks that she only \u2018pre\u00adtend\u00aded\u2019 to be mes\u00admer\u00adized for the demon\u00adstra\u00adtion, but I sus\u00adpect that like many first-time sub\u00adjects, if she were to be shown a con\u00advin\u00adcer test, she would be amazed to dis\u00adcov\u00ader she was actu\u00adal\u00adly hypnotized.<\/p>\n Elaine has been work\u00ading hard to get her ground-break\u00ading Inter\u00adnet project off the ground. She knows her supe\u00adri\u00ador, who is also her venge\u00adful ex-boyfriend, is out to make sure his com\u00adpet\u00ading project wins out. She is sure that he sent some\u00adone to her to sab\u00ado\u00adtage the project when it demos at a trade fair. Elaine encoun\u00adters Mark at the air\u00adport and is striken with him before she knows who he real\u00adly is, and then she finds out that they have to work togeth\u00ader and that he is her supe\u00adri\u00ador, so she sus\u00adpects him of being the one who is sup\u00adposed to sab\u00ado\u00adtage her. He takes her to a stage hyp\u00adno\u00adsis show in Vegas and their shared expe\u00adri\u00adence on stage only makes their con\u00adnec\u00adtion stronger yet stranger. Their desire might cloak sab\u00ado\u00adtage but it could be the pre\u00adscrip\u00adtion for a life\u00adtime forever.<\/p>\n Com\u00admen\u00adtary:<\/em> Prob\u00ada\u00adbly the most valid sto\u00adry of the three, at least from a hyp\u00adno\u00adsis stand\u00adpoint. All the stage hyp\u00adno\u00adsis sug\u00adges\u00adtion (\u201cI always give a part\u00ading gift to the peo\u00adple who make my show hap\u00adpen. When you wake up the fol\u00adlow\u00ading morn\u00ading, you\u2019ll be relaxed, but ener\u00adgized, ready to face the chal\u00adlenges of your new day. And if you find your\u00adself in bed with a very spe\u00adcial part\u00adner, you will have unlim\u00adit\u00aded seual ener\u00adgy. Just for that night, though.\u201d) did was encour\u00adage the poten\u00adtial roman\u00adtic rela\u00adtion\u00adship, per\u00adhaps even sub\u00adcon\u00adscious\u00adly giv\u00ading the two the per\u00admis\u00adsion to start the rela\u00adtion\u00adship that they nor\u00admal\u00adly might have moral doubts or con\u00adcerns about, with\u00adout explic\u00adit\u00adly direct\u00ading whom that rela\u00adtion will be with. That they still had pro\u00adfes\u00adsion\u00adal or per\u00adson\u00adal con\u00adcerns that would have lim\u00adit\u00aded the rela\u00adtion\u00adship means that the sug\u00adges\u00adtions they were giv\u00aden were only sug\u00adges\u00adtions, noth\u00ading stronger.<\/p>\n Mia is a detec\u00adtive. She has the inate pow\u00ader to hyp\u00adno\u00adtize crim\u00adi\u00adnals into telling her what she wants to know and make them much more docile. But she has failed and now an alien crim\u00adi\u00adnal is on the loose. She needs help and that help comes to her as Ric, an alien boun\u00adty hunter. Ric takes Mia on an adven\u00adture of a life\u00adtime. She wants him, but does\u00adn\u2019t know how to have him with\u00adout coer\u00adcion, so she chal\u00adlenges him to let her hyp\u00adno\u00adtize him, with the ulte\u00adri\u00ador motive to com\u00admand him to have sex with her.<\/p>\n Ric is a boun\u00adty hunter from an alien plan\u00adet. His race is hyper\u00adsug\u00adgestible but he has a microchip implant that pre\u00advents him from being hyp\u00adno\u00adtized. He is also smit\u00adten with the dimin\u00adu\u00ada\u00adtive (at least from his over\u00adsized per\u00adspec\u00adtive) Mia and accepts her chal\u00adlenge to be hyp\u00adno\u00adtized just as a way to relieve his own sex\u00adu\u00adal frustrations.<\/p>\n Of course, Mia and Ric will even\u00adtu\u00adal\u00adly dis\u00adcov\u00ader each oth\u00ader\u2019s lies and their accep\u00adtance of them and their accep\u00adtance and love for each other.<\/p>\n Com\u00admen\u00adtary:<\/em> While this sto\u00adry works as a romance, to this long-time sceince-fic\u00adtion read\u00ader, it falls flat as an SF sto\u00adry. The aliens aren\u2019t so \u2018alien\u2019 here, hav\u00ading desires and appear\u00adances that are just as human as any Ter\u00adres\u00adtri\u00adal. You could remove all of the alien SF ele\u00adments, leav\u00ading only the use of hyp\u00adno\u00adsis as an enhanced crim\u00adi\u00adnal inves\u00adti\u00adga\u00adtion tool, and the sto\u00adry would still work.<\/p>\n Rec\u00adom\u00admen\u00adda\u00adtion:<\/em> Rec\u00adom\u00admend\u00aded for fans of romance sto\u00adries, not so much for oth\u00aders. Not hav\u00ading any real broad expe\u00adri\u00adence with the field, I\u2019m not sure how they work as romance sto\u00adries, but they do work as fic\u00adtion (with the caveat above.)<\/p>\n Things change, espe\u00adcial\u00adly in the pub\u00adlish\u00ading field. Ellora\u2019s Cave<\/a> is no longer in busi\u00adness: it start\u00aded in 2000 but encoun\u00adtered dif\u00adfi\u00adcul\u00adties start\u00ading around 2013 with authors claim\u00ading unpaid roy\u00adal\u00adties. The pub\u00adlish\u00ader filed a defama\u00adtion law\u00adsuit in 2015, was counter-sued, and set\u00adtled in 2015 with a con\u00adfi\u00adden\u00adtial agree\u00adment. Ellora\u2019s Cave also threat\u00adened to sue the Romance Writ\u00aders of Amer\u00adi\u00adca over RWA\u2019s claims that Ellora\u2019s Cave was not pay\u00ading authors.
