Famous plas\u00adtic sur\u00adgeon Lar\u00adry Roberts (Albert Finney<\/a>) is under sus\u00adpi\u00adcion of mur\u00adder when sev\u00ader\u00adal of his clients, all beau\u00adti\u00adful mod\u00adels, start turn\u00ading up dead, and incrim\u00adi\u00adnat\u00ading evi\u00addence is found at the scene. The strange part, is that his clients were already quite beau\u00adti\u00adful but want\u00aded very minor but very spe\u00adcif\u00adic adjust\u00adments made. Now, only one of these clients, CIndy Fair\u00admont (Susan Dey<\/a>), is still alive and they come togeth\u00ader to solve the mystery.<\/p>\n

Descrip\u00adtion:<\/em> When mod\u00adels start dying in mys\u00adte\u00adri\u00adous ways, sus\u00adpi\u00adcion falls on the only com\u00admon demon\u00adi\u00adna\u00adtor, their plas\u00adtic sur\u00adgeon Lar\u00adry Roberts.<\/p>\n\n

His inves\u00adti\u00adga\u00adtion leads to Dig\u00adi\u00adtal Matrix, a major cor\u00adpo\u00adra\u00adtion run by John Reston (James Coburn<\/a>) which is cre\u00adat\u00ading a vir\u00adtu\u00adal\u00adly new form of adver\u00adtis\u00ading: vir\u00adtu\u00adal com\u00admer\u00adcials, using vir\u00adtu\u00adal actors cre\u00adat\u00aded from scan\u00adning per\u00adfect real peo\u00adple. Such adver\u00adtis\u00ading would be a rev\u00ado\u00adlu\u00adtion, and not just for the tech\u00adni\u00adcal angle.<\/p>\n

(Reston) Tele\u00advi\u00adsion can con\u00adtrol pub\u00adlic opin\u00adion more effec\u00adtive\u00adly than armies of secret police, because tele\u00advi\u00adsion is entire\u00adly vol\u00adun\u00adtary. The Amer\u00adi\u00adcan gov\u00adern\u00adment forces our chil\u00addren to attend school, but nobody forces them to watch T.V. Amer\u00adi\u00adcans of all ages *sub\u00admit* to tele\u00advi\u00adsion. Tele\u00advi\u00adsion is the Amer\u00adi\u00adcan ide\u00adal. Per\u00adsua\u00adsion with\u00adout coer\u00adcion. Nobody makes us watch. Who could have pre\u00addict\u00aded that a *free* peo\u00adple would vol\u00adun\u00adtar\u00adi\u00adly spend one fifth of their lives sit\u00adting in front of a *box* with pic\u00adtures? Fif\u00adteen years sit\u00adting in prison is pun\u00adish\u00adment. But 15 years sit\u00adting in front of a tele\u00advi\u00adsion set is enter\u00adtain\u00adment. And the aver\u00adage Amer\u00adi\u00adcan now spends more than one and a half years of his life just watch\u00ading tele\u00advi\u00adsion com\u00admer\u00adcials. Fifty min\u00adutes, every day of his life, watch\u00ading com\u00admer\u00adcials. Now, that\u2019s power.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The com\u00adput\u00ader gen\u00ader\u00adat\u00aded adver\u00adtise\u00adments were just the begin\u00adning. Using the L O O K E R (Light Ocu\u00adlar-Ori\u00adent\u00aded Kinet\u00adic Emo\u00adtive Respons\u00ades) tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy, Dig\u00adi\u00adtal Matrix is able to geneate a hyp\u00adnot\u00adic sig\u00adnal (that was pro\u00adduced and cen\u00adtered on the eyes of the com\u00adput\u00ader gen\u00ader\u00adat\u00aded actors and actress\u00ades in the com\u00admer\u00adcials) that caused the view\u00aders to accept the advertising.<\/p>\n\n

We see that hap\u00adpen when Roberts and Fair\u00admont sneak into Dig\u00adi\u00adtal Matrix and dis\u00adcov\u00ader the LOOKER tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy in the lab: an adver\u00adtise\u00adment is play\u00ading and Fair\u00admont begins watch\u00ading, bored with Roberts\u2019 inves\u00adti\u00adga\u00adtion. As she watch\u00ades the ads play\u00ading, she slips into a trance and starts mind\u00adless\u00adly repeat\u00ading the adver\u00adtis\u00ading slogans.<\/p>\n

But that isn\u2019t the only use for the hyp\u00adnot\u00adic light pulse: pro\u00adject\u00aded from a hand-held device (like a gun) it can induce a tem\u00adpo\u00adrary fugue state in any\u00adone who sees the light, caus\u00ading loss of mem\u00ado\u00adry, visu\u00adal (neg\u00ada\u00adtive) hal\u00adlu\u00adci\u00adna\u00adtions and peri\u00adods of uncon\u00adscious\u00adness. That\u2019s how the one mod\u00adel at the begin\u00adning was killed: the killer flashed the pulse into her eyes when the opened her apart\u00adment door, then used the nage\u00adtive hal\u00adlu\u00adci\u00adna\u00adtion effect to stay unno\u00adticed, even\u00adtu\u00adal\u00adly direct\u00ading the help\u00adless woman to fall from the bal\u00adcony to her death.<\/p>\n

And Reston has big\u00adger plans for his hyp\u00adnot\u00adic adver\u00adtis\u00ading: just one ad, run the night before a Pres\u00adi\u00adden\u00adtial elec\u00adtion, could make Reston the next Pres\u00adi\u00addent of the Unit\u00aded States. And it would have worked, too, giv\u00aden the reac\u00adtion of the test audience.<\/p>\n
