But his oppo\u00adnent, Sir Nay\u00adland Smith, is there to oppose his scheme.<\/p>\n

Descrip\u00adtion:<\/em> Archae\u00adol\u00ado\u00adgist Sir Lionel Bar\u00adton has dis\u00adcov\u00adered the tomb of Genghis Khan, the rest\u00ading place of the leg\u00adendary con\u00adqueror\u2019s mask and sword. With these arti\u00adfacts, Fu Manchu, by pro\u00adclaim\u00ading him\u00adself as the rein\u00adcar\u00adna\u00adtion of the Genghis, can orga\u00adnize the Asi\u00adat\u00adic races into a mass assault on the West. But Bar\u00adton refus\u00ades to divulge the loca\u00adtion, even after being offered bribes (includ\u00ading Fu Manchu\u2019s own daugh\u00adter Fah Lo Suee) and suf\u00adfer\u00ading tor\u00adture, car\u00adry\u00ading the secret to his grave.<\/p>\n

But the secret is not lost: Bar\u00adton\u2019s daugh\u00adter Sheila also knows the loca\u00adtion of the tomb, and togeth\u00ader with her fiancee Ter\u00adry Granville and Inspec\u00adtor Nay\u00adland Smith, uncov\u00ader the arti\u00adfacts. After a switch by Nay\u00adland Smith, Fu Manchu cap\u00adtures both Granville and Smith. Using a mys\u00adte\u00adri\u00adous hyp\u00adnot\u00adic drug, Fu Manchu places Granville under his con\u00adtrol and uses him to per\u00adsuade Sheila to bring him the sword and mask.<\/p>\n

Now pos\u00adsess\u00ading the mask and sword, Fu Manchu plans to seal his assump\u00adtion by sac\u00adri\u00adfic\u00ading Sheila while Smith is being low\u00adered into a pit of croc\u00ado\u00addiles and Granville is to be giv\u00aden a sec\u00adond dose of the drug, which will make him obe\u00addi\u00adent to Fu Manchu for\u00adev\u00ader. But Smith escapes and frees Granville and Sheila: using a weapon from Fu Manchu\u2019s own arse\u00adnal, they blast the Man\u00addarin and his fol\u00adlow\u00aders and make their escape. As the weary vic\u00adtors sail across the Atlantic, Smith throws the sword over\u00adboard, so that it will nev\u00ader be seen or used again.<\/p>\n

His\u00adto\u00adry:<\/em> \u201cThe Mask of Fu Manchu\u201d<\/em> <\/a> is large\u00adly based on the 1932 nov\u00adel of the same name, chang\u00ading the iden\u00adti\u00adty from the \u201cMasked Prophet\u201d or \u201cGold\u00aden Prophet\u201d to Genghis Khan and con\u00addens\u00ading the sto\u00adry to accom\u00admo\u00addate the lim\u00adit\u00aded film run time, plus chang\u00ading a few names around. Also, Fu Manchu is large\u00adly reduced from an hon\u00ador\u00adable, Machi\u00adavel\u00adlian schemer to an insid\u00adi\u00adous pow\u00ader-hun\u00adgry rabble-rouser.<\/p>\n

Com\u00admen\u00adtary:<\/em> Yes, there is strong anti-Asian stereo\u00adtype in this movie, but it is<\/em> from the 1930\u2019s, and that sen\u00adti\u00adment was very strong in all of Sax Rohmer\u2019s<\/a> Fu Manchu<\/a> nov\u00adels and is con\u00adsid\u00adered one of the best adap\u00adta\u00adtions of the time period.<\/p>\n
