Mod\u00adesty Blaise, once the head of an inter\u00adna\u00adtion\u00adal crime syn\u00addi\u00adcate, had a pas\u00adsion about con\u00adfronting slavers and drug smug\u00adglers, so it is to be expect\u00aded that one of the men she took down would come back for vengeance. How he would go about it, how\u00adev\u00ader, would involve Mod\u00adesty\u2019s clos\u00adest con\u00adfi\u00addant, Willie Garvin, in a plot where she is brain\u00adwashed into killing him!<\/p>\n

Cap\u00adsule Descrip\u00adtion:<\/em> Dur\u00ading her career as the head of a top crime syn\u00addi\u00adcate, Mod\u00adesty Blaise<\/a> made a lot of ene\u00admies, espe\u00adcial\u00adly with her hatred of drugs and slav\u00adery, so when she halts the oper\u00ada\u00adtions and careers of those engag\u00ading in those ille\u00adgal prac\u00adtices, it is only to be expect\u00aded that those peo\u00adple would want to take their revenge. Some mere\u00adly want\u00aded her dead, but at least one would go so far as to brain\u00adwash her into killing her best friend and con\u00adfi\u00addan\u00adt\u00c2 Willie Garvin<\/a> in order to have her live with the pro\u00adfound regret as a sub\u00adsti\u00adtute for her death.<\/p>\n

Descrip\u00adtion:<\/em> Sev\u00ader\u00adal years ago, Mod\u00adesty Blaise stopped the ille\u00adgal slave trade of Mah\u00admoud by kid\u00adnap\u00adping him from his own boat and sell\u00ading him to be a slave him\u00adself. Now, he\u2019s back, and with his old orga\u00adni\u00adza\u00adtion, he kid\u00adnaps Mod\u00adesty and with the help of the sin\u00adis\u00adter Doc\u00adtor Hans Baum she is sub\u00adject\u00aded to days of drugged uncon\u00adscious\u00adness. Final\u00adly, when she is con\u00adscious\u00adness, she has for\u00adgot\u00adten her past and the group com\u00adbines to feed her false mem\u00ado\u00adries and feel\u00adings that would encour\u00adage her to shoot Willie on sight. Once that it past, though, her true mem\u00ado\u00adries will resur\u00adface and she would be haunt\u00aded by her actions for the rest of her life. A fit\u00adting pun\u00adish\u00adment, thinks Mahmoud.<\/p>\n

Mod\u00adesty\u2019s abduc\u00adtion was obscured by an acci\u00addent, mak\u00ading it appear as if she died there, but Willie does\u00adn\u2019t believe it and sets out to search for her, look\u00ading up old acquain\u00adtances from their crim\u00adi\u00adnal days, with no luck. How\u00adev\u00ader, dur\u00ading that search, he and M.I.6 agent and friend Maude Tiller spot one of Mah\u00admoud\u2019s peo\u00adple tail\u00ading them. While they think they are get\u00adting infor\u00adma\u00adtion from her, she is set\u00adting them (espe\u00adcial\u00adly Willie) up for the kill.<\/p>\n

The set\u00adting is a ski resort: out of sea\u00adson, it is iso\u00adlat\u00aded and unoc\u00adcu\u00adpied, per\u00adfect for the set\u00adup. Willie finds Mod\u00adesty as he was sup\u00adposed to, and she turns and shoots him auto\u00admat\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly. But as he sees her, she says the one name that is the key to their rela\u00adtion\u00adship: \u201cPrincess\u201d, and that alone is enough for Mod\u00adesty\u2019s fabled accu\u00adra\u00adcy to be just enough off-tar\u00adget to keep her from killing Willie, much to Doc\u00adtor Baum\u2019s dis\u00admay and Mah\u00admoud\u2019s dis\u00adplea\u00adsure, as he stabs the Doc\u00adtor for his fail\u00adure. And for Mah\u00admoud and the rest of his gang. they are no match for the angry Mod\u00adesty and Willie.<\/p>\n

Com\u00admen\u00adtary:<\/em> At least the brain\u00adwash\u00ading here is fair\u00adly low-key and drawn out, mix\u00ading mis\u00addi\u00adrec\u00adtion and implant\u00adi\u00adng false mem\u00ado\u00adries and feel\u00adings through amne\u00adsia as opposed to the more stereo\u00adtyp\u00adi\u00adcal episodes. There\u00adfore, its a more believ\u00adable and more inter\u00adest\u00ading way of manip\u00adu\u00adlat\u00ading her into her actions.<\/p>\n

His\u00adto\u00adry:<\/em> \u201cMod\u00adesty Blaise\u201d<\/em> was the cre\u00adation of British author Peter O\u2019Don\u00adnell<\/a>, who wrote 13 nov\u00adels and short sto\u00adry col\u00adlec\u00adtions about the char\u00adac\u00adter, and artist Jim Hold\u00adaway<\/a>, although O\u2019Don\u00adnell col\u00adlab\u00ado\u00adrat\u00aded with oth\u00ader artists in pro\u00adduc\u00ading a dai\u00adly com\u00adic strip around the char\u00adac\u00adter after the death of Hold\u00adaway. O\u2019Don\u00adnell also wrote a num\u00adber of his\u00adtor\u00adi\u00adcal romances under the pen-name of Madeleine Brent.<\/p>\n

Mod\u00adesty Blaise was also appeared in two movies, a the\u00adatri\u00adcal release \u201cMod\u00adesty Blaise\u201d (1966)<\/a><\/em> and a made-for-tele\u00advi\u00adsion pilot \u201cMod\u00adesty Blaise\u201d (1982)<\/a><\/em>, nei\u00adther of which real\u00adly lived up to the promise of the orig\u00adi\u00adnal, plus a \u2018pre\u00adquel\u2019 direct-to-DVD movie \u201cMy Name is Mod\u00adesty\u201d<\/a><\/em> in 2003, about her life before she met Willie.<\/p>\n
