Current Status of The Collection

For years, I’ve been calling it “The Hypnosis in Media Collection”, but lately, its just been “The Collection”. Maybe, if this all gets made part of some library or museum, it will be former, again.

Anyway, here’s some recent status counts:

The Collection In All Its Glory

This is the bulk of the material items of The Collection.

The books on top are duplicates: I have many more than I previously thought I had. I should see about disposing of them.

The left side of the bookcase holes the larger items.

The two figures to the left and right on the upper shelf of the display cabinet are from the movie “The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari”. The lower shelf has the bust of the Marvel villain The Ringmaster. Behind that is an animation cel of Hypnotia from the “Iron Man” animated series.

The top open shelf on the left holds, from left to right:

  • large format comics collections cataloged and to be cataloged
  • binder and file folders containing web articles, promotional materials, and other assorted information
  • professional hypnosis organization quarterly magazines (I may dispose of them in the future, they’re not really adding anything to The Collection)
  • professional magic catalogs
  • information on stage magic and stage magicians

The bottom open shelf holds, from left to right:

  • the two Pat Collins LP records: one is her hypnosis imduction record, one is her singing
  • the Alwin Stevenson individual and group hypnosis records (as advertised in the back of magazines)
  • two bins with digest-sized magazines that also need to be cataloged
  • binders and file folders containing random elements

The shelves on the right are double and even triple stacked, and still there are more books to be added (on the floor, beside the banker’s box.) The top shelf is contains only fiction, the next two shelves have fiction books stacked on the outside with non-fiction books behind them. The bottom three shelves have only non-fiction books.

But Wait! There’s More!

I still have two more sets of shelves to go through.

The shelves to the left were made by my brothers in high school shop class. The first set of shelves to the left has two closed sets of shelves, and an open set in the middle. The closed sets have stacks of old magazines which either have articles on hypnosis, or ads for hypnosis books and stuff, while the open shelves have reference books on various TV programs such as “The Avengers” (British) and “The X‑Files” and move magazines.

The second shelf contains media reference books on movies, including the binder with all of the publicity photographs from “The Hypnotic Eye”. They will be my next set of books to catalog (and dust.)

There are two comic book boxes, one long and one short, with all of the comics, and one magazine box, all on top of the shelves. Cataloging all of them will be a task.

The two stacks of books at the bottom right is all of the RPG books I pulled from my own collection to put into The Collection. Combined, the stack would be approximately 5 feet high, but I don’t want it obscuring the window.
